Christmas is getting closer and closer which means there’s a whole host of festive activities on offer in and around Halifax for the whole family to enjoy.

Christmas lights switch on – 24 November

One of the most important festive events in Halifax is the switching on the of this year’s Christmas lights on 24 November at 4:30pm. This year promises to be a magical occasion with a selection of fantastic on-stage performances at the Woolshops Shopping Centre as well as numerous entertainers across the whole city.

The whole event will be broadcasted from Pulse radio with a spectacular fireworks display following the switch on. There will also be a world record attempt for the most people dressed as a snow man, so join in to help create history!

Christmas at The Piece Hall – 16 November to 31 December

From 16 November – 31 December The Piece Hall will be transforming into a magical Christmas destination for the whole family to enjoy with numerous different activities to get involved in. During the festive period, the square will be home to a stunning Christmas tree and a traditional Nordic Tipi where you can enjoy fantastic food and drink, along with street performers, brass bands, and choirs to truly bring some festive cheer.

A specially curated Christmas Fair showcasing some of the best independent crafts, artisan makers and specialist food and drink traders in the region for a truly fantastic Christmas shopping weekend from 30 November – 2 December.

To top off the festivities, you’ll find a circus-style Spiegeltent which will be full of fantastic family shows, live music, stand-up comedy, and late-night cabaret. The Piece Hall will close out the year with a magnificent New Year’s Eve Courtyard Party which will feature live music and surprises throughout the night!

Pantomime – 13 December to 5 January

It wouldn’t feel like Christmas if it wasn’t time to head down to the best pantomime in the country! This year The Victoria Theatre will be showing the magical fairy tale of Snow White from 13 December to 5 January.

Once again you can experience all the ingredients that make a great panto, including cheap laughs, a hilarious dame and a set of extravagant outfits! You can get tickets from as little as £14.50 which makes it a truly perfect occasion for the whole family!

A Christmas Carol – 9 December

The Viaduct Theatre is hosting a special concert version of the classic Christmas Tale, A Christmas Carol. This is set to be a fantastic evening with only two viewings available, 3pm & 6pm on 9 December.

A Christmas Cantata follows the story of the cold-hearted Ebenezer Scrooge as he receives a visitor in the night who changes his life forever.

The Christmas favourite is truly encapsulated by the joyful sung concert. The event is a perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with a partner as there is a minimum age of 18 with tickets only £15 each.

There are so many fantastic festive events happening in Halifax this year that the entire family can enjoy. Head down to Broad Street Plaza to experience a range of festive menus from the numerous eateries on offer and enjoy one of the many superb movies which will be showing over the Christmas period, including brand new ‘Mary Poppins Returns’, which is released on 19 December.
